Norwegian Airforce

Etter krigens slutt i 1945 ble det anlagt flere nye kystfort med moderne skyts som et svar på det våpenteknologiske kappløpet under den kalde krigen. Denne kategorien er også for andre militærbaser og våpensystemer brukt i den samme perioden.

Sorry I posted again. Just had one other question that was unrelated to my previous question... and all of the previous ones. So by 1979 Dec. Norway had the following fighter squadrons
336: 10 F-5A, 6 F-5B
338: 2 F-5B, 14 F-5A
718: 12 RF-5A, 4 F-5B
331: 16 F-104G, 2 TF-104G
334: 16 CF-104. 3 CF-104D

Problem I am having is that Norway ordered 78 F-5As, 14 F-5Bs, 16 RF-5As in total by 1979 they were all delivered. By 1979 21 F-5As crashed, 1 F-5B crashed, 4 RF-5As crashed. So that brings it down to 57 F-5A airframes, 13 F-5B Airframes, 12 RF-5A airframes. In the OOB Above ^ That has all RF-5As and F-5Bs but not nearly the amount of F-5As. Did I mess up or why does norway have so many extra F-5As? According to what I have read they originally wanted 20 aircraft in 4 squadrons. Then after the accidents it wasn't possible, which is true. So they cut a squadron. And then they decreased it to x16 aircraft per squadron. I am just not understanding how Norway had 82 airframes, but only had 3 squadrons, out of those 3 squadrons each had 16 aircraft which means they only were operating 48/82 airframes. Seems extremely low. The following airframes were in Norway's possession (These are ones that have not crashed By Dec. 79)

F-5A Serial Numbers (57) 125 128 130 131 132 133 134 156 164 165 207 208 209 210 211 212 214 215 220 222 224 225 227 228 229 368 369 370 371 373 374 375 376 562 563 565 566 567 569 570 572 573 574 575 576 577 578 579 580 895 896 897 900 901 902 904 905
F-5B Serial Numbers (13) 135 136 241 242 243 244 387 594 595 906 907 908 909
RF-5A Serial Numbers (12) 100 101 102 103 105 106 107 108 110 113 489 490

So I am just having a problem understanding the airframe allocation for Norway, I do not understand why they had so many airframes yet did not have them deployed in active squadrons, I probaly overlooked something here hopfully someone could give me a bit better of an answer. Thanks!

Thank you,

If there aren't any members on this forum who can supply you with all the details you ask for, i would recommend contacting The National Norwegian Aviation Museum in Bodø, https://www.norwegianaviationmuseum.com/ or The RNoAF Museum http://forsvaretsmuseer.no/nor/Luftforsvarsmuseet.

I'm not a fan of Facebook, but for a purpose like this it could be helpful... If you post a question in one of the many special-interest groups there, you will probably get answers fast. For instance:

I have also attached scans from "Norske Militærfly 1912-2013" (Sverre Mo & Ole Bjørn Sælensminde, 2013. ISBN 978-82-7128-687-3 ), where you can see the history of each plane in the different squadrons.
