purchase of the detector

hello all, does anyone know what is the duty of detector purchased in England? Price about 5500 NOK.

I assume this is a metal-detector? Probably no duty according to this list (I'm certainly no expert on customs though, so you should probably get in touch with them to be sure): http://www.toll.no/templates_TAD/Tollta ... 5.31#85.31
Note: Unless there's special circumstances (like measures to protect norwegian industry etc. - most likely not the case here), duty is normally just a few %.
On the other hand: No matter if there's customs duty, you need to pay VAT if the value of goods exceeds NOK 200,- (NB: Only if ordered by mail. If you bring it in yourself, I think the limit is NOK 6000,-).
VAT is 25% on the total cost (ie purchase + shipping, if this is sent to you). In addition you have to pay the fee for customs-clearance, depending on how this is done (if you use Posten, their current fee is NOK 120,-).
I guess you should calculate with something around additional NOK 1500,- if ordering by mail.
